The Visit Is Not Enough — The Questions Are What Matter

The most important information about a PG is not visible during the tour. It is only accessible through the right questions, asked with the right directness.

Question 1: Can I speak directly with a current resident — right now, without management present?

A genuinely confident management team will not hesitate. A management team with something to hide will deflect or offer to "arrange" a call later. Willingness to facilitate an unscripted resident conversation in real time is one of the strongest indicators of a trustworthy PG.

Question 2: What is the exact security deposit amount, and under what conditions is it withheld?

Ask for this in writing. Ask specifically: What deductions are made? How long does the refund take? What is the dispute process? The answers, and whether they are given confidently and in writing, tell you a great deal about the financial ethics of the management.

Question 3: What happens if my daughter needs to leave earlier than the notice period?

Ask what the early vacating policy is. Is the remaining deposit returned? Are there penalties? Is there flexibility in genuine emergencies? The management's response reveals their approach to resident welfare versus revenue protection.

Question 4: How are complaints handled, and what is the escalation path?

Ask for a specific example: "If my daughter complains about the food at 9 PM, who does she contact and how quickly is it resolved?" A PG with professional complaint redressal will give a specific, step-by-step answer.

Question 5: What is the exact male visitor policy?

Ask directly. The answer should be unambiguous: male visitors are restricted to the designated waiting area at the ground floor, they must sign in, and they are not permitted after a defined time.

Question 6: How is the CCTV footage accessed, and who reviews it?

Ask to see the CCTV monitor live. Confirm cameras are recording. Ask who has access to recordings, how many days of footage are stored, and what the protocol is if footage is needed for an incident report.

Question 7: What is the protocol if there is a medical emergency?

Ask: Is there a first-aid kit? Who is the first point of contact? How quickly can management get a resident to a hospital? Ask to see the emergency contacts register.

At Aspiro Living, we welcome every one of these questions — unannounced, to any staff member, at any time. Our answers are always the same because our systems are always in place.

Conclusion: The Right PG Has Nothing to Hide

A trustworthy PG management team is never made uncomfortable by a thorough parent. If your questions are deflected or answered with vague reassurances — that is your answer. Walk away.
